University design project
Athens, Greece
The project is located in the southern section of the Acropolis, known as Perserschutt
The intervention, aimed at creating a new Museum, a workplace and at the same time a permanent exhibition of the site’s restoration, seeks to enhance the museographic relationship between the collections to be exhibited and the architectural space, with particular attention to the existing heritage.
The proposal of an underground environment located next to the Parthenon minimizes the visual impact from the outside and maintains a visual contact thanks to openings that frame the columns of the monument while walking along the main path in the underground.
The light plays a fundamental role in the perception of the spaces, ranging from the darkness of the initial rooms interrupted by sudden beams of light that illuminate and give monumentality to the works on display, to the rooms gradually brighter as they ascend towards the ground floor.
